Dr. Kenneth Aldridge, MD, FACS
Dr. Kenneth Aldridge, MD, FACS, has been with West Alabama Urology Associates since 1986. He is certified by the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Aldridge received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he graduated cum laude in 1981. He completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Medical University of South Carolina and completed a residency in Urology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
He has served in leadership positions on the medical staffs at DCH Regional Medical Center and Northport Medical Center. He was chairman of surgery at both hospitals, and he held leadership positions in the Tuscaloosa County Medical Society and with the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. In addition to his private practice, he currently serves as a Vice President for Medical Affairs for DCH Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Aldridge is a member of the American Urological Association, American College of Surgeons and American College of Physician Executives.
Dr. Aldridge and his wife, Julie, have two daughters and a son. He is a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church.
Dr. Howard Winfield
Dr. Howard Winfield joined West Alabama Urology Associates in the summer of 2009.
A native of Montreal, Canada, Dr. Winfield has been a practicing urologist for 25 years. Dr. Winfield came to Alabama from the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, where he served as a Professor in the Department of Urology and Director of Laparoscopic, Robotic and Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery.
Dr. Winfield has extensive experience with minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. In fact, Dr. Winfield was the first person in the world to perform laparoscopic surgery to remove a cancerous portion of a kidney. One of the first surgeons in the country to use the da VinciĀ® Surgical platform, Dr. Winfield has trained many surgeons from around the world on the da Vinci Surgical platform. He has written and edited scores of scholarly papers on urology and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Winfield, who received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Urological Association and the Endoscopic Surgical Society.
Dr. Winfield is married and the father of four children.
Dr. Mrinal Dhar
Dr. Dhar joined West Alabama Urology Associates in the fall of 2010. He will work with Drs. Kenneth Aldridge and Howard Winfield in the practice of treating diseases and conditions of the genitourinary tract.
A member of the American and Canadian urological associations, Dr. Dhar comes to Urology Associates from New York City, where he completed his fellowship in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery at St. Vincent's Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital.
He completed his residency in urology at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, and received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, in 2004. He received his bachelor of science degree in human biology from the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, where he received the Dr. James A. and Connie P. Dickson Scholarship for Sciences and Mathematics and the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship.
Dr. Dhar has participated in several research projects and was published in the journal "Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease."
In his spare time, he likes to travel and play tennis.
Dr. Matthew Thom
Dr. Matthew Thom joined the staff of West Alabama Urology Associates in August.
Dr. Thom works with Dr. Kenneth Aldridge, Dr. Howard Winfield and Dr. Mrinal Dhar in the practice of treating diseases and conditions of the genitourinary tract.
Dr. Thom treats both benign and cancerous conditions and diseases of genitourinary system. He has a special interest in minimally invasive/laparoscopic/robotic procedures for renal, prostate and bladder diseases.
He grew up in Gainesville, Ga., and graduated from Oglethorpe University, where he received the prestigious LeConte Excellence in Science award and participated in collegiate basketball and tennis. Dr. Thom received his doctorate of medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia at the Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta, Ga., and was elected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
Dr. Thom completed his internship and residency training in urologic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis and was the recipient of the Resident in Excellence award.
His work has been published in professional journals and textbooks. Dr. Thom presented his research at several professional meetings and was twice a resident essay finalist at the South Central section meeting of the American Urological Association.
Dr. Thom, a member of the American Urological Association and Endourological Society, is married with three young children.
